Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about care at Brainstorm Behavioral. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to ask during your visit.
Insurance & Billing Information
Do you accept insurance?
Yes — Brainstorm Behavioral Services accepts select insurance plans, but coverage and billing arrangements vary depending on your insurer.
To confirm whether we are in-network with your plan, please email:
hello@brainstormbehavioral.com
Include your name, date of birth, and a photo of your insurance card (front and back). We will verify your coverage and follow up with next steps.
Please wait for confirmation before assuming insurance will be accepted. While we cannot guarantee coverage until verification is complete, we will always do our best to offer services whenever possible.
Self-Pay Rates
$200 – Initial Psychiatric Evaluation (60 minutes)
$150 – Follow-Up Medication Management (20 minutes)
Receipts are provided after each session. Superbills are available upon request for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your specific insurance plan. Patients are responsible for verifying their out-of-network benefits.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule any appointment.
If something urgent or unexpected arises, we understand — emergencies happen. Please communicate with us as soon as possible.
In cases of emergencies or unavoidable circumstances, the cancellation fee will be waived.
Medications
Do you prescribe controlled medications?
Yes. We prescribe controlled medications such as stimulants (e.g., for ADHD) and benzodiazepines when clinically appropriate.
Because we are a telehealth-only practice, patients must attend regular follow-up appointments to continue receiving controlled medications. We do not offer early refills or prescriptions when follow-up care is overdue. If you miss or delay an appointment, a new prescription won’t be issued until you're seen again.
Controlled substances cannot be "refilled" the same way as other medications — a new prescription is required each time by law.
Why monthly follow-ups?
For patients prescribed controlled substances, monthly follow-ups are required for safety, clinical monitoring, and to comply with DEA and insurance regulations. These visits aren’t just about issuing refills — they’re an opportunity to check in, troubleshoot anything that isn’t working, and make sure your treatment is still on the right track.
We keep these visits focused, efficient, and meaningful.
